Environmental Initiatives

At Retro Technical Services, we recognize our responsibility to take advantage and opportunities to enhance the natural and protect environment through our professional activities and to minimize the potential for causing harm to the environment.

We are committed to achieving continual improvement in our environmental performance by working in partnership with clients, professional design teams, contractors and suppliers. We manage our activities so as to minimize the risk of pollution and contamination

Design Activities

  • Ensure that site-specific issues are fully considered and the local environment is respected.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant environmental and energy legislation.

  • Reduce the consumption of energy and non-renewable resources both in the supply and manufacture of the materials and components and in the performance of the completed project.

  • Avoid the use of prohibited materials and any others potentially harmful to health and safety.

  • Reduce pollution and the production of waste and foster the recycling of materials.

  • Promote the design principles of "long life, low energy".

  • Create healthy internal environments maximizing the use of natural daylight and control of sunlight.

  • Collaborate closely and fully with clients and professional colleagues in order to secure these standards.

  • To monitor and review the quality of our work with the intention of engendering a culture of continual improvement.

Working Environment

  • Select and specify equipment based on lower energy running costs and better all around environmental performance.

  • Specify operating and maintenance regime to ensure energy efficient running operation i.e., switch off when not required.

  • Specify lighting control equipment to save energy as well as running costs.

  • Reduce, re-use and recycle as much of our waste as possible and recommend disposal of the remainder by the most predictable and environmentally acceptable methods.

  • Minimize the effects of essential but potentially hazardous materials.

  • Undertake regular health and safety inspections.

  • Promote the best use of resources, including materials, energy and time.

  • Develop and expand our skills base through training and continuing professional development.

Lighting Controls

There are now some very efficient lighting fittings available to suit most situations and the relevant health and safety issues – however, quite often lighting controls are overlooked. Lighting controls can:

  • Save energy as well as running costs.

  • Improve user satisfaction.

  • Provide flexibility of use and operation at workplaces.

  • Make management better informed about operation, cost and maintenance..
